Useful site for less experienced teachers

This site has nice short summaries on a range of topics. It's written by James Alatis, former head of linguistics at Georgetown University, so it's quite good.

Visual thesaurus

This a great online gidget that allows you to see synonyms or closely related words in the form of a visual mindmap.

You have to buy it to get regular access, but you can check it out before you do.

I don't use it a lot, but it's really cool anyway...

Session Details

As testers, our aim is to involve teachers in all phases of testing, at the very least to increase their understanding of the place of assessment in the teaching/learning process and to gain their cooperation in promoting transparency. The presenter will set this topic in context and present useful techniques for developing teachers as testers.

Creating interesting language exercises, and making language exercises interesting

Here is a link to a video of a presentation by Penny Ur in which she will

look at some grammar, vocabulary and spelling exercises, discuss what makes them more - or less - interesting, and explore some strategies that can add interest to the boring ones. The aim is to equip participants with some ‘practical principles’ for creating and maintaining interest in essentially form-focused procedures
